Concrete and synth music
During summer 2015 the film director Lorenz Findeisen commissioned to Etienne de la Sayette an original music for his film “Concrete Stories” (broadcasted on France 3 and various international documentary festivals). The director who knows Etienne’s work based on the acoustic music, took him by surprise and asked him music “à la kraftwerk”, a minimalist “synth music” to accompany footage of the seventies and concrete landscapes, blocks of flats that grow to infinity on the edge of cities.
The same day that it accepts the proposal Etienne stumbles across a dusty Roland SH 2000 in a beat-up flea market in Seoul Dongdaemun neighborhood (at that time he stayed in Korea). He sees a sign of destiny and within days raided (analog synth, drum machine, effects …) in empty granaries, jugs and other Korean second hand stores. No sequencer, no programming, no lunch, no digital, pleasure is precisely to get the hands dirty and play these machines like any other acoustic instrument, producing an old synth Current music.
